CPB Software Develops ZIVA App for Modern Crisis Preparedness in Austria

With the new civil protection app ZIVA, crisis preparedness in Austria is becoming more digital, more personalized, and more accessible. The app was developed by the team at CPB SOFTWARE.

The Austrian Civil Protection Association, together with over 120 organizations from across Austria, has unveiled the new civil protection app “ZIVA.” The app has been in the testing phase since May 18, 2026, and is scheduled to be publicly available starting in the fall of 2026. The goal is to better support citizens in their personal crisis preparedness and to centrally provide relevant information in the event of an emergency.

ZIVA combines three key areas: information, preparedness, and alerts. Users receive location-based risk analyses, personalized preparedness recommendations, checklists, emergency instructions, and alerts via push notifications. The goal is to present hazardous situations—such as severe weather, fires, power outages, or other safety-related events—in a clear and personalized manner.

For CPB SOFTWARE, this project is an example of how digital solutions can support specific societal challenges. Our developers implemented the app solution from a technical standpoint, placing particular emphasis on stability, user-friendliness, and a clear structure. Especially for applications in security-related environments, it is crucial that information is provided in a reliable, understandable, and context-appropriate manner.

“Digital solutions like ZIVA demonstrate that technology is not just about innovation, but above all about responsibility—the responsibility to ensure that people in crisis situations receive information quickly, reliably, and in a way they can understand. Our team has worked with the utmost care to ensure stability, user-friendliness, and a clear structure, because in a security-sensitive environment, every detail counts.”

The development of ZIVA demonstrates how technology can be used in a targeted manner to support people in their daily lives and in exceptional situations. For CPB SOFTWARE, the focus is not on the technology itself, but on its concrete benefits: secure digital processes, reliable applications, and solutions that are sustainable in the long term.

The app was unveiled as part of the launch of the beta phase. Moving forward, the insights gained from the pre-launch phase will be specifically incorporated into the further development of ZIVA; the app will be expanded to include reliable offline functionality, and the Austrian Civil Protection Agency’s website will be consistently aligned with the app’s user experience in terms of design, navigation, and content to ensure a consistent and seamless user experience.
